Ernie Dorflinger-comments on CCL slides versus "Electrify Now" 2/6/2024

A new NJ SC BE campaign is a great idea. Personally, however I am not sure Brian's (Electrify Now) set of slides is a good to use a source of material for a new campaign's slides. For one thing it relies heavily on saving on energy costs as a main motivation for electrifying a home. In addition, it has almost no guidance for homeowners as to how to plan for and go about the process of electrifying. It also doesn't point out any of the complications and potential of inconveniences of electrifying a home (e.g. need a new panel, 240-volt circuits, cooler temperature around a hot water heat pump). And a pet peeve of mine it shows how "energy efficient" the new appliances are. This may make sense for comparing resistance heating to heat pump heating but not really for comparing to natural gas. Comparisons should be made on real NJ "operating" energy costs and emissions.

Also, I would argue for less emphasis (on no emphasis) on cooking and EVs. The real focus should be weatherization and electrifying space heating and water heating.
